6,7-Dibromo-2,3-dihydroxynapthalene (Brown Substrates)
Glycosynth have developed a new range of chelating chromogenic substrates for detecting enzyme activity in solid media. The novel range of 6,7-Dibromo-2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene (Brown, product code 56XXX) substrates are ideally suited for use in agar plates for the detection of Gram-negative organisms under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. They offer easy detection of any enzyme-positive reaction by eye, when used with an iron salt in the growth medium, giving discreate red-brown coloured colonies.
6,7-Dibromo-2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene beta-D-glucopyranoside (Product code 56059, beta-D-galactopyranoside (Product code 56045), beta-D-ribofuranoside (Product code 56180) and beta-D-glucuronide CHA salt (Product code 56065) were developed for the detection of pathogenic bacteria. Some inhibition of growth was seen with these substrates with 6,7-Dibromo-2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene beta-D-ribofuranoside being inhibitory to gram positive organisms but 6,7-Dibromo-2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene beta-D-glucuronide CHA salt produces a strong colour change on hydrolysis by E. coli.
Brown substrates are protected by European Patents EP3066107, EP3066209 and US Patents US9879303, US9938562, US10443084 if appropriate, as indicated under each product.
